Freaking ridiculous. How do Wellington boots and the lawnmower beat out the bottle opener? How do you open your Coronas?

Nice to see the clothes peg made the list at #100. :)

Well, if we keep breaking this down further citing pre-necessities trumping current technology;

'Boots' cant be on the list. Cows should be, since thats where the leather came from...(or maybe it should be domestication actually?)
'Bottle opener' cant be on the list. Silica should be, since you need to invent glass to invent bottles, to open them...
'Clothes Peg' cant be on the list, since you need to invent spring steel and cutting tools to make the pegs...
'Engines' of any sort definitely cant be on the list. They required a slew of previous inventions to make them work...

Or you could just look at the list as an amusement value item, and enjoy it for what it is; A list.

Props where props is due; without the iPhone we wouldn't have cooler, much better and more functional phones that run on Android. I like apple putting stuff out like that, because it makes everyone else copy them and put out a much better product for less money

Actually to be precise. Cloths pegs predate the use of metal. Cave men (or at least bronze age and later IIRC) used pegs made from animal bone ;)

Well no sh--!

Huh. Maybe I should give the human species a bit more slack. Or at least the descendants of the inventor of the bone clothes peg get some slack, anyways

True, but as far as commercial flight is concerned it's pretty much all turbine engines.

Gas turbine engines evolved from steam turbine engines.

Farming should be the number 1 invention because without it there would be no civilizations but only tribes.

but nothing was invented..... they just took what already existed and made it better. They made the first usable touch screen phone, but not the first touch screen phone, therefore award is invalid.

It was not an obvious invention. The concept may seem obvious but the way they managed to create the UI using only the touchscreen is a nice, not great, invention.
