That wasn't my question, my question is if its legally licensed, aka are they paying royalties to be able to legally use hdmi on their hardware, which they'll be selling to consumers.

I understand your question, but can't answer it. The site indicates that they are well funded so they may be picking up the tab on royalties.

Looks like its release has been pushed back a month to December, still interested to see how it'll pan out.

This will likely NOT work as an htpc. Not because it can't play the videos but because it can't run the front end.

Also stuff like subtitles might not work as they actually take a lot of cpu power to push and I'm not sure they can be offloaded onto anything else like the video can.
