Default DVD9 playback and how to convert into mkv?

I was wondering what programs will playback dvd9 ISOs? It seems VLC wont and a quick google search hasn't yielded and help either.

Can't you mount the ISO with say VirtualCloneDrive and then just play it like a normal DVD?

Try Media Player Classic Home Cinema else mount it using Virtual CloneDrive.
