My System Specs

Default SFF heatsink

So I'm planing a HTPC upgrade/rebuild and I'm sort of stuck on the heatsink.

im leaning towards this cpu http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=55347 Core i3 560
and this case http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=49498 Silverstone Grandia GD05B

the case has something like a 72mm height restriction for the heatsink due to the optical drive overhanging.

it seems like most popular low profile coolers block ram slots on micro atx boards.

Then i found this little gem Swiftech, sure its overpriced and a dated design. but it will fit and surely it has to be better then the stock heatsink by a fair bit, no?

anyone have any experience with the swiftech heatsink and a clarkdale cpu?
id expect if they say it can handle a mildly overclocked i7 then that should give me lots of room with a little i3

or the regular shuriken, but it will take up some space. not sure how mych airflow you will have in there, as the swiftech one will need some as well

Unfortunately, you're thinking intel.

Otherwise: Newegg.ca - GELID Solutions Slim Silence AM2 65mm Ball CPU Cooler

Quiet, Active, fits within 1U height restrictions.

thanks for the input, i'm afraid the big shuriken is going to block a ram slot or 2 at the worst, and be a real treat to push the pins down with a ram module blocking access

the slightly smaller http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=38007 shuriken 3, is interesting though. anyone have experience with it or 12mm thick fans for that matter?

Part of the appeal of the Swiftech heatsink is that its simple; big chunk of copper, bolts down, that can take 25mm thick fan and still fit
