Same thing happens to me. I was trying to gather all left over parts and build my 2nd PC as HTPC. But slowly it turns out it is as good as my main gaming pc. XD

The hardest thing for me was raping my lovely gaming rig to build a nice HTPC, my gaming pc was full of grunt and now i had to compromise.....It's difficult !!

I also wanted gaming to be an option on my new HTPC build as I no longer wanted 2 computers in the house... It was a HUGE step down in game settings i tell you.

I guess the only true answer if we are honest is a dedicated machine for a dedicated task, (ie) gaming pc for games, HTPC for your media centre needs. I know the 2 are possible together but compromises MUST BE MADE !!

I always ended up doing that.

The 'cure' for me was the Laptop. I needed to get portable (moving) so I bit down hard, and ordered the best 15" gaming laptop I could get at the time. Went with Dell (yeah yeah) and pretty much did what you did, only faster. Stuffed every thing (and penny) I had into it.

The upside? Hard to stuff in anything else. Once it's built and done, you learn to live with it.

I'm almost scared to build a Tower or HTPC again. I remember thousands going on the CC for builds I didn't even use.

Made a Tower for my kid (he was 2 years old at the time) with a Vapochill that (for it's time) was a 'Crysis' build. Most 2 year olds don't game much :p

He did like the PC, but for playing cartoon games and watching vids, a little bit of overkill. Wife hated it though, better than hers. And having a phase change cooler on a 2 year old's PC was bit much too.

So yeah, when you're a PC addict, it shows.

My living rooms currently filled with about 30 boxes I've yet to open up of stuff I've ordered online, the HTPC parts are in there somewhere...

Geez, any box I get is opened within 5 minutes of me bringing it inside. No exceptions.
