Question XBMC/Network help

Started using XMBC for the first time. I have my mkv movies stored on my WHS. My HTPC is in my theatre room connected to my WHS using wireless-N. After installing XBMC it see's my mkv folder on my WHS. However it only recognizes one mpeg-4 movie thats in that folder. The remaining mkv movies are not detected. Can anyone tell me why?

If you are going through the "media server" option in WHS then you may not be able to see the MKV files. Try using the "network Shares" option and you might be able to see them.

I don't see an option for "network shares". when I add source I have my local drive, HDHomerun devices, Home folder, replay TV Devices, SAP Stream, and UPnP Devices. I was using UPnP Devices that then offers my the Windows Media Connect option.

UPNP (or the media server as it is called) in WHS will not display video types that WHS cannot stream. I had the same problem with my WDTV Live and my WHS. The solution was to navigate to the network shared folders on the WHS and it would display all file types. Not sure about XBMC but there must be a way to view network shares.

+1. Reason being is it usually does some transcoding before sending it off. What you have to do is allow the XBMC box to do it, and assuming its using VDPAU or DXVA then it should be fine for 1080p movies, etc.
