There are actually several different types of dvi connectors. Dvi-d and Dvi-i, plus both come in single and dual link format. Dvi-d only supports digital signals while Dvi-i can support both digital and anolog signals, so either Dvi-i or Dvi-d will work as they both support the digital 5.1 in the hdmi cable. It took a lot of digging and even a phone call to Powercolor to confirm this

Anyways, long story short my adapter is on it's way. But in hindsite if anyone needs a similar adapter save some bucks and buy a Dvi to hdmi cable
