what is a good Media player for a good price or any suggestions

I AM really considering ( that is if it is possible to do) buying a media player then just make a NAS for all of my Video files and use the Media player to just use the files fom there ( not sure if that is call streaming or not) . anyway I did a quick search through the reviews and noticed that there isn't anything on Media players so I made this post tio ask if that is a good setup just to use a NAS and a media player if there are better ideas I am totally open to suggestions.
I did build an HTPC and it works great just I don't have allot of room also I would like to be able to access my Video files on other TVs and my LAptop.

Did you check WHS ( Windows Home Server ) it's a Server OS that you can put in a spare PC. it cost around $ 150 . I can't live without it.

If you already have the NAS set up and everything i would recommend looking into twonky media server.

Alternatively, TVersity has free version: TVersity - Home and I imagine it works similarly.

Not sure if this would suit your application, but try xbox media center. I had it on my htpc and it works and looks great. Though for a first time user I found it a bit of a pita to setup.
Check out this thread.
