Default How do you make a PVR?

i've been thinking about making a media center for my home.

i know it would be pretty simple to make a device that plays blu-ray, connects to internet etc.

but what about making it a pvr as well?

how do i go about that, what do i need, what kind of software would i need for it to record certain programs at certain times, etc?

My vote also goes for getting a provider's PVR. Especially for HD. The Hauppauge HD PVR is pretty shitty.I really wish I didn't spent $350+ on it and software for it.

Yep by the time you spend the money on any tv tuner card that supposedly does HD you could have purchased your providers PVR. However if you don't need perfect quality hd on your computer than the haup cards will do just fine... you can store a lot more data on a computer than you can say a star choice pvr. The question is how often do you re-watch recorded content?
