Default Live TV recording

I am using HD-PVR as tv tuner + SageTv. Can the constant live tv recording be bad for a drive? Would I notice a difference between Green and Black caviar while watching live tv on my htpc?

Drive will be fine. And no you won't notice a difference between a Green and a Black. You are only writing/reading 3-4MB/s.

I'm using WD Green and SageTV, sometimes I have TV on all day, no problem. I believe SageTV records Live TV to the same location you store shows, I would be concerned if it was recording to my main SSD drive.

Are the recording reducing the lifespan of the hard drives? Like a SSD?

I wanted to buy either the 640 black caviar or 1tb green and give a 200gb partition for O/S and the rest for live recorrding, recorded shows. I will store the shows i want to keep on another backup Green drives.

If there is not advantage for black on htpc then I will go green

Green is cooler and making little or no noise.
Watching Live TV on SSD would shorten the lifespan of it.
