HTPC + Media Server; Suggestions?
So I just ordered up a Hauppage 150 PCI-E TV Tuner from Ncix and I am wondering if a few things might be possible.
This is the hardware it will be going into:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+
Asus Crosshair 590 SLI motherboard
4 GB Mushkin Redline Ascent PC2-8000
Video is currently a 7200 GS 256 MB, might drop in a 9600 I have around here
2x Seagate 7200.11 640 GB HDD's (Clean serials) and a 7200.10 250 GB Drive
CPU Cooling is done via a CoolIT [PURE]
Case is my old P182 (Side panel does not fit with the [PURE])
This is what I would like to do:
TV Streaming (If possible), I understand only 1 channel can be on at a time. Streaming will be too my desktop which is running Vista HP x64, my laptop which is running Vista HP x86, and maybe to my netbook which is running Ubuntu 9.04
Media streaming would be nice
Basic backups, I can do this by dragging and dropping, no need for automated backups.
Would Windows 7 do the trick? Can I stream the TV Tuner to different network connected computers? Can I schedule recordings to this machine from a different computer? Is there a Linux app to accomplish some of this for my netbook? Windows 7 would also work with my 360 which is nice. Would WHS Maybe be better? Or even looking at Amahi etc.... I like the idea that Windows 7 would be "free" till March 2010, and less hassle.
This computer will also be connected to my main TV for watching Cable/Movies and maybe some light gaming, gaming not neccessary as my laptop is able, and my desktop is more then able.
Any suggestions are welcome :)
