My System Specs

Default Silverstone LC-03

Thread mainly for Babrbarossa, but if others want to peep in then whatever.

Hopefully these pictures help you out, if you want something else, I can take em.

Just for reference, that's a 7900GTO (aka 7900GTX basically).

And as for using that front, bottom mounted 80mm, I found that stamped grill was way too restrictive to make it useful with a quiet 80mm fan. And well I never bothered cutting it out either. Might help though I'd suggest you make a duct of sorts so it blows into the GPU.

Restrictive? I think so.

That's where the HDD is supposed to go, it screws into this metal mounting bracket of sorts which slides in there and screws in with 1 screw. Though I used it to put all the extra cables in as you can see.

Hey- that's perfect! So you're not even using the 3.5 bay- I could just take it out for clearance for my video card then, right?

Do you think that since my card is a dual slot, that I might be ok for heat?

edit: no- never mind- looks like your is a two slot card as well- have you had serious overheating issues?

How well does the VFD work? One of the things that made me leap at this case was that it was Logitech Harmony compatable.

I admire your cable management efforts in there, and I see what you mean about that fan vent- definitely would need to be cut out- it would add 30% to the fan dB and reduce cfm by 30%

Well if you remove that cage, you'd have to tape/glue the drive bay covers in or something unless you want a gaping hole in the front when you open the doors.

Mine didn't come with a VFD so no comment there.

The card doesn't overheat because I don't exactly run anything 3D on it. I use MediaPortal which is all 2D pretty much. I did try out XBMC briefly though and since that's all DirectX, the GPU fan kicked up quite a bit and got rather noisy.

Pics of the cage:

And well just to show the total space:

Oh one idea, assuming you don't have any other cards other than the GPU, you could rig up some 80mm, maybe even 92mm fans onto the side of the case to blow in and onto the GPU.

Assuming of course where you're placing the case has ample room on the sides.

What case is that you're using? I'm attempting to build mine in a cramped Antec Minuet 300.

As the title says, Silverstone LC-03.

I picked it up from Canada Computers a while ago for like $100. Cheapest decent looking HTPC case I could find.

ARGH!! I just got the damned case tonight- The bloddy VFD needs to plug into a parallel port to function- you're supposed run run a big arsed LPT cable from the inside of the VFD through the back of the case into a parallel port on the motherboard - what the fah is that?? How can they get away with still selling these things without some kind of warning on the product page?

lol that sucks, but I guess it is a rather old case...

I doubt Silverstone makes them anymore, probably just all old stock.
