Thinking of upgrading...

I currently have:

Amd AM2 5200(?)
Asus M2n-e
4gig (4x1) DDR2
Asus EAH4850 (keeping)

I have someone that wants to buy either the CPU, motherboard and ram or just the CPU and ram. Basically whatever I want to sell. I'm not sure if I want to reformat and reinstall everything so I'm thinking of just getting either:

Phenon 9850 Black Edition
2x2 gigs Mushkin HP2-6400
T-rad2 and a few Kama Flex 80mm case fans.
This CPU should give me a nice increase and the fans should quiet things down quite a bit.

OR

Core2Quad Q8300 or Core2Duo 8400 (leaning toward the 8400 for lower heat output.)
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe with wifi (wifi is a big plus)
Mushkin XP2-8500
and the same fans as above.

If I decide to do a complete rebuild and go with the Intel solution how is the 8400 going to compare to the Phenon and with the Intel solution is there another equivaltent motherboard at memoryexpress.com that has the built in Wifi that doesn't have built in audio, video or crossfire as they are not needed?

Or any other combinations from MemoryExpress that would do well?

Is the computer a dedicated HTPC? If so there is absolutely nothing wrong with what you have.

It's pretty much dedicated. The only thing it does besides movies is rar'ing, downloading and encoding and from reading some reviews on the I7 that thing is a beast at compressing and encoding. Plus, I have the upgrade bug! :)

depends on what your htpc has to do for you mine has to play cod4 and gta for the wife. If it was me i would go 920 and crysis warhead for me (biggest screen in the house)

Do the I7 motherboards require a new PSU?
Just wondering because they appear to have a 8pin header instead of the 4 from the PSU.
