Question Wedding HTPC Build Help ^^

Hey i'm currently building a new HTPC for a friend who just got married. And was hoping some fellow Canadians with more computer experience then me could give any suggestions to my proposed setup. Most of the parts I plan to purchase at canadacomputers.com (Toronto local stores)

HTPC Build FILE - PDF file (he wants the Venti System)

He'll b using it on a 46" Samsung Plasma and Rogers HD Digital Cable Box.
Main uses will be for playing Blue Ray Movies and PVR of HD content.

The main concerns is;
- if he needs an IR controller to control channel changing on the Rogers HD Box from the PC?
- Is there a good videocard/HD Tuner combo or is having 2 seperate cards better for performance?
- What operating system/software should he use? Windows MCE? Myth?

I would appreciate any advice as this is the first standalone HTPC I will b ordering.

#1 & 3) You can use the standard MCE remote + IR blaster combo to change the channels on his Rogers box but it works best with Windows MCE or Vista Home Premium (Media center).

#2 ) Always get a separate TV tuner and video card. But make sure the Video card is new enough to offload the work of any High def. content your friend may want to watch.

Let us know if you'd like some more product-specific suggestions.

Question HTPC record Rogers HD Tuner suggestion

This is the system I have purchased (the original PDF file setup link HTPC Build FILE), if you read the original post its to be setup on an HDTV with a Rogers HD box. I am now looking to order a Tuner card, I was originally going to purchase the Hauppage HVR-2200 Pci-E however I am discovering by reading posts in this forum that I cannot get an HDMI input tuner card and have to resort to Svideo or composite?

What I would like to know is which card is gonna let me record HD Rogers channels in the highest quality possible, and which operating system/software I should be installing on the system to get good recording.

btw the motherboard supposedly does 7.1 audio and the video card i purchased to offload the workload (thanks for the suggestion!) has DVI, VGA, HDMI output....

Any suggestions would be really appreciated as the HTPC is just sitting and waiting to be setup for recording TV

oh heres a pic of all the stuff hehe:

What HD box do you have? I have the SA 4250 which has a firewire output, apparently this is for recording on a PC. I don't know about res or even how to do it just read a bit about it. I'm getting ready to make a HTPC too so I'm a few steps behind you.
