HTPC build help?

Hey guys, I'm building a HTPC rig for a customer. This will be my first, and I have a few questions.

Budget is 1200$ before taxes, no OS.

Parts:

Asus M3A78-EM 780g
AMD X2 AM2 5000+
My own set of ram, Mushkin EM2-6400 2x1Gb.
Corsair HX520W, modular
Seagate 7200.11 1Tb
LG GH22NS30 DVD
Thermalright SI-128 HSF
Moneual 932B case

He will be using is PS3 for HD DVDs. Now, the video card and the sound card. He definitely wishes to use nVidia, and I have no idea which sound card to use.

Options? :help:

Thanks.

I would go with something in the ati flavor to take advantage of the hybred crossfire.

Can he really not be convinced to go ATI? ATI's HDMI implementation is much better than the current Nvidia offerings as it provides audio out of the box.

Does he plan to do much gaming with the machine, or is it primarily going to be used for audio/video? What is he planning on driving for display, and at what resolution?

The PS3 doesn't play HD-DVD, only Blu Ray. Sorry I couldn't resist

That's quite correct. My error.

He wishes to have nVidia - brand preference. I tried to talk him out of nVidia, no luck.

No gaming, strictly audio / video on a 46" Viera 1080p HDTV from Panasonic.

Er, shouldn't the onboard graphics be enough for an HTPC, it is a 780G which should be able to handle HD.

He still wishes to have a video card, just in case. And I have converted him to folding, when the HTPC is not in use...

Then he needs a 280....... :)

Seriously though... if he's basically getting a card just for the sake of getting a card, wouldn't one of the $100 8800GT sales suit?

Or since it's an HTPC, what about a passively cooled card like this one... NCIX.com - Buy ASUS GeForce 8500GT PCI-E 459MHZ 512MB 128BIT 667MHZ DDR2 VGA DVI HDTV Out Silent Passive Video Card - EN8500GT SILENT MG/HTP/512M In Canada. ?
