I think he knows that he wants a HTPC, but he's still undecided about the gaming aspect. I found this card (NCIX.com - Buy EVGA E-GEFORCE 9800GT 600MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ 256BIT DDR3 2XDVI HDCP HDTV Out Video Card 512-P3-N971-TR - 512-P3-N971-TR In Canada.) which I think is a good compromise between HTPC, gaming and folding, for the price...

He would have loved a 280, but that would have been really overkill.
