AMD GPU Folding

With the announcement that AMD won't have any new GPUs in the next couple months, I'm going to start keeping an eye out for new GPU deals on RFD, specifically AMD ones because of the gaming bundle that they're offering. How is AMD doing in terms of folding on the GPU?

Same old, same old. Still crappy. Not worth it at all. Currently folding on a 5870, and I'll see what the 6950's are capable of doing very shortly.

Folding on my 6970 wasn't worth the power I was burning.

Really? I thought V7 changed things a bit... That really sucks to hear :(

AMD 6K and 7K may not be good at folding, but for World Community Grid they do well. HD7000 cards can put up some great numbers on Help Conquer Cancer GPU WU's.

Hmm, might have to look into it. Why have I never heard of this before?

HCC gpu wu's are somewhat new. HD7700 and up are great for GPU wu's. My 7870 is currently doing 4 wu's, though some members over at TPU have 8 on a 7870 and 10 -12 on 7900 series. HD 6000 aren't as good due to older architecture, but a 6870 is good for 2 wu's. I currently pump out an average of 30K credits according to BIONC (thats running 8-10 hours a day).

Also, these wu's are done in an average of 5 -10 minutes.... meaning you can score alot of credits on dedicated WCG rigs or GPU's.

Cool. So my 7970 should do well.

I suggest you take a look at this to set up your GPU: Guide to running multiple GPU work units - techPowerUp! Forums.
