GPU to get huge boost in PPD

Folding@home: Unified GPU/SMP benchmarking scheme: equal points for equal work

Well, looks like they're going to give some love to the GPU folders out there now and put gpu and smp on a little more equal footing :)

Makes me happy as I'm purely a GPU folder.

Very interesting.

I just reactivated my GTS 450, got the 8054 WU and is saying that on this WU alone would do 10.5k PPD. I added the advmethods flag when I saw this , maybe I will get the 8057WU, the one in the news. Anyway I got a pleasant surprise : the SMP production did not sink like it was the case of the gtx295, I am folding on 22 cores and PPD estimation didn't lower since I started the GPU folding. That is cool. I guess i will be in the market for a gtx 480 then.

Sweet, will have to check that out to see what the 2WIN is capable of.

Very interesting indeed. Although given the history of some of their beta GPU work units, I think I'll wait until they go into full production. The last time I tried a beta one, it nearly set the house on fire :shok:

QRB finally for GPUs. I've been waiting for this for a long time.

Me too. I sent Pande a couple messages asking why the points were so disproportionately weighted towards the CPU. I guess they eventually do listen.

So, what do we have to do to make sure we get the beta WUs?

I'll change from V7 to another client if necessary, but I would love to do it under V7 if I can.

BeaverBender October 23, 2012 10:01 AM

I believe you just have to use the advmethods flag.

MARSTG October 23, 2012 10:01 AM

well, Beta is a single WU, the 8057, but probably just add -advmethods as flag. But I don't think it will work on gtx295, you need the GPU3 client which works for Fermi and Kepler.
