Not only did they have both the planned and unplanned outages, core version 1.15 has been really affecting some folders causing lots of EUE's. Strangely it actually benefits others, my PPD went up by ~600 on the GTX. To add insult to injury they released a new WU 5801 which had only gone through QA with an older core, it caused almost every maschine to constantly EUE until they got the 24Hr stop message. These WU's have been pulled Folding Forum • View topic - Project 5801 issues. [Should be Offline].

BTW a new core version 1.18 has just been released to replace 1.15, no other info yet.

Congratulations on joining the 2,000,000 club...

I stopped using the CPU client as it was pissing me off. Giving me 154 point for Jobs that took my CPU 16 hours to complete then the next one was 750 points for a 20hour one. makes no sense to me whatsoever, then for 2 days I couldn't download any new jobs. Last week I started getting jobs worth 15 points for a widely disproportionate amount of work/time so I dunno...Looks like my CPU is going over to the Boinc side.

Congrats sswilson on the 2 million mark!

Don't blame you , if you had a quad I'd suggest the SMP client. The SMP client is more stable then the GPU one these days and gets me between 1900 and 2500 PPD. With your dual core your better off with BOINC...

Looking for a reccomendation to maximize ppd from my new build:

Vista 64bit
8Cores 3.16Ghz ---> OC'd to 3.55 right now, may go past 4ghz
16gb ram
2x OC'd 4870's

I'm no stranger to multiple smp instances, so that might be an option, am I going to get anything worth while on the 4870's to turn off an smp or two?

I'm still downloading drivers for the gpus and stress testing the machine past stock, might be leaving town for work again tomorrow (wed) So I'd like to set something up before I leave, prob at stock speeds to be safe :)

While the ATI cards aren't as productive as Nvidia cards right now stanford is starting to release bigger WU's which will swing the balance to the ATI side. Your 4870's should be good for 3000 to 4500 PPD depending on WU and will only get better...

If it was me I'd run two SMP's and the two GPU's with one core for each GPU, making sure the GPU's priority is set to 'low' the SMP's to 'idle'...

Running 8 cores, I think that 4 SMP clients and 2 GPU clients should work.

You won't need any space heater with that...!

I upgrade my GPU to a GTX 280 yesterday from a 8800 GTS 512. I ran the client for 8 hours straight, but my PPD hasn't change yet. Is it normal?

Sorry for the double post, but I just changed the PPD calculation base in the preferences to "effective rate". It shows 7850 PPD

That 280GTX was doing 7975 ppd avg. with an oc of the shaders only (1512 MHz, if memory serves me right). Don't forget to raise the fan speed to 60%, due to the increased temps.
