Does anyone have a moment to sum up and explain the Chimp Challenge??

So as of Today my Server will be back up and running...Got my self a new KCMA-D8<GA> mobo with 32gb of ram and dual quad core CPU's. I only have this system for folding and folding alone. I hear of this thing called the chimp challenge where people fold but I know so little about it.. can anyone explain it for me ?

It's a 10 day race between teams for the right to display "The Jaded Monkey". It's a friendly competition which also helps raise awareness about folding. More will be posted soon on how this year's competition will be run.

The Chimp Challenge is a race to accumulate the most F@H points. The winner gets the coveted “Jaded Monkey”. The race was started a while ago between a couple of teams and now has expanded to several more teams plus any alliances they may form. This year I believe there are also different categories of "win" because the largest teams will easily win for most points. These categories being made to include smaller teams to compete in and I think these are still being defined. The focus is on increasing the awareness and the total amount of folding done for Stanford's research.

For the loser(s), the dreaded cursed monkey’s paw awaits. It’s not for the faint of heart, for their will be much smack talk and poo flinging. Put on your game face, recruit as many people & machines that you can, turn on the air conditioning and watch your power bill skyrocket!

Thanks so much, I will be hiding my new Server under my desk at work :P no major power bills for me haha. at my office I we have unrestricted shaw internet so I dont think anyone will notice :P plus theres 3 lcds on my desk and I only use 2 for work:thumb:

Well it's not really bandwidth folders have to worry about, they Work Units aren't that large when they are downloaded from the servers or uploaded back up. It's the actual folding itself which is the computational crunch. It's the power of running your rig at 100% that is the expensive part.

Well at the office the landlord pays for power so I think I am covered. My Nvidia rep gave his notice last week and said he owed me so he said he has some folding cards for me for the coming week :) System expenses are nothing for me as I have dug myself deep into the industry and am able to work deals for almost everything I need :) though things dont happen over night they do in time.

So to join the challenge am I just going to keep folding like normal or do I have to do something different?

I think they are still finalizing the rules for the CC. I'm sure there will be a thread explaining any additional setup as we move closer to May 15

Thread will be up soon, no worries. And Soul, as far as receiving GPU folding powah, I sure hope they are 580s, not 680s since Stanford has not yet changed their Client to have them 680s fold properly.

Thread coming soon. We will be changing over to a team nickname as always. The scoring system will be changing, but the method of participation will not.

Sweet my Folding Rigs are coming together fast :D
