So the deal would have to be, if you win the raffle, you get the machine in as-is condition, and once it's your property, you may do with it as you please. Of course, limiting the scope of the raffle to current HWC folders, for example, increases the likelihood that the machine will be used as desired.

This is a good idea, in my opinion.
There's a way to avoid that: have it set up at HWC or at the house of one of our owners (but not me )...

I'd be up for 50 bucks towards a raffle.

Yeah, but then you're really just raffling off PPD rather than the machine itself. What you're suggesting, unless I am mistaking you, is basically like selling cloud compute time in raffle form. That would probably reduce the scope of interest and make it harder for the would-be seller to recoup value.

After all, the primary goal for something like this would be to sell a piece of equipment that is simply cost-prohibitive for most people. That a raffle might enable this makes it a good idea unto itself. That a raffle would also contribute to team unity, PPD retention, and that kinda stuff are all just sorta bonuses. Really awesome bonuses.

Whoever 'wins' the raffle should be prepared to host the machine at his/her house and pay for power usage. As a kind of 'thank you' to all the people who contributed to that person getting a quad opteron machine for real cheap, that person could be prepared to fold for each one of those people's usernames for a couple of weeks each. After that, It's their machine do with as they please. Which, let's be honest, if it's one of us, will be to fold under our own username for HWC.

Aww sounds like you guys missed the raffle for the quad 6174 from 3.0charlie, yeah I just had to buy one ticket... It was the only one sold and wouldn't ya know it..... I won! The ticket cost a bit more then was thrown around in this thread tho :(

Updated sig, and ppd nearly doubled. There, folding on two computers, that's definetly it for me.
