as funny as the idea of a 35 user raffle would be for a server system.. I don't think HWC would allow this to go down. The legal implications are astounding if people cried foul, etc.

I was just bringing up the fact we have three awesome systems for sale, and hope a fellow HWC'er could pick one up to further the cause for team HWC!

MaxPC used to have raffles quite regularly when I folded with them. Never saw a problem during that year.

Maybe the machines could be bought by a syndicate, where would they be setup though?
Would be happy to chip in $30 for a group of hardware canucks machines-could the folding points be divided up among the syndicate then?

Raffles are pretty easy to administer actually, and not too much potential for fall-out. Just make sure you market the item as being in used, as-is condition with no raffle ticket refunds.

Any stipulated post-raffle behaviour like continuing to use the machine to fold for HWC etc. would be very difficult to enforce, though. So the deal would have to be, if you win the raffle, you get the machine in as-is condition, and once it's your property, you may do with it as you please. Of course, limiting the scope of the raffle to current HWC folders, for example, increases the likelihood that the machine will be used as desired.

This is a good idea, in my opinion.

To make it fair, we could charge $10 a 'ticket'. So, those who want to contribute $100 would get 10 chances to win. Those who only want to/can contribute $50 would only get 5 chances to win. We would need an independant 3rd party (folding team captain?!?) to administer said raffle. And yes, chances are if it's kept in the folding community, it would be used to fold.
