How many PPD from a GTX 550Ti

A fellow in the office built up a new computer and purchased an EVGA GTX 550Ti. He's currently unhappy with its performance and would like to move up to a 560Ti.

My question is, how much PPD can one expect from a 550Ti. If it's at least 6k PPD I'll probably offer to buy it from him for $100 (what he paid for it, minus taxes). I'll run it in my second machine where I won't have any driver conflict issues.

I have one just driving a monitor at the moment, ppd was around 9,000 iirc

With a decent overclock, 10-11K PPD s doable.

So for $100, it's kind of a deal if all I'm going to do is fold with it, right? At least compared to the folding capabilities of my AMD cards, anyways.

Ya its a pretty good deal, I would prefer a 460, because they pump out 14K PPD per day, but thats still some decent PPD, and not a whole lot of watts being used.

I had one doing 13k ppd, the MSI version with the fancy cooler reviewed here on HWC.

Hope this helps with your decision.

My GTX 550Ti, before I switched to GPUGrid earlier this month, got me 8000 to 11000 PPD depending on the WU. Like the other more midrange GPUs, this one likes the smaller WUs (better PPD and PPD/W).
It was factory-OC'd at 970 core (memory really doesn't matter unless you underclock it a lot).
I'll warn you however to prepare for a lot of GUI lag at least on the drivers I tried so except minor inconvenience if you use the computer (all WHQL except the newer 295 series).

Whether it's a good deal or not is relative. The card is pretty good with power consumption, so you can break even depending on how long you fold with a GTX 460 768MB or similar on points / $ in the long run because of less power consumption of a 550Ti vs a 460. For now the 550Ti will slaughter anything AMD has for F@H power vs performance.

Thanks. It's actually going in a box i have under my desk that isn't actually used for anything other than folding, so I'm not worried about any effects it may have on user experience.
