Even the 8 "core" instances are pretty weak, my best one barely edges my 2500k on average so I don't think it would work very well even if you wanted to spoof cores.

Woot! I just got my email from HPCloud inviting me into their beta program :) Time to significantly increase my folding power for the next little while :D Now I just need to learn how to configure it....

Cool they're still sending out invites.
I got an email saying that they're dropping ram usage down to 20GB per set of servers but that doesnt really effect us folders.

It definitely does affect us. It means you go from 35k ppd per cluster to around 10k if you are lucky.

I don't think it's retroactive for the time being thankfully, just if you try to start a new instance. They seem to have taken the core limit off or pushed it up but not much good without the RAM. Plus I'm guessing that they kill the old instances on the 27th.

If you can't do smp8 this is hardly worth it, 4-5k ppd per instance, maybe 4 per account of those.

Though at the same time it could mean their cloud servers are getting hit to hard, meaning backing off slightly and offering slightly less powerful systems the 4 core instances may yield more ppd then they currently do

I have read a few of the guides posted on setting up the instances but I can't seem to SSH into it. It appears that I can't download my keypair file. When setting up the servers there wasn't a default keypair listed so I created one, should there have been a default?
