Received the cross ship motherboard today.. got the whole thing sorted out now.. the memory I got the first time isn't compatible (even though it's SR DDR3 1333 CL9 ECC registered as required)

won't post with that memory.. had to get new ones :(

going to set up linux now.. will put the memory up for sale..

Setup:

4x AMD Opteron 6134 - 2.3 GHz Eight Core <-- Magny-Cours
1x SUPERMICRO AS-4042G-6RF barebone 4P g34 server..
8x Kingston 8gb ECC DDR3 memory (2x4gb kits)
Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit server, basic built, kraken wrapper

------

before kraken wrapper project 9675 - tpf 1m17s - 75380 PPD
after kraken wrapper project 9675 - tpf 1m2s - 104329 PPD (+38%)

before kraken wrapper project 6904 - tpf 31m36s - 244357 PPD
after kraken wrapper project 6904 - tpf 29m30s - 270908 PPD (+11%)

for the bigadv it seems not to gain as much from the kraken wrapper..

So, you have 8x 8core CPUs? It's a 4P board..
and I read that memory as having eight, 8 gig dimms.. for 64GB of memory. or do you have 8 gig of memory, in four 2GB dimms?
Personally I would be going 16x 2GB dimms for that board.. but you did 16x 4GB dimms?

That's some pretty sweet PPD numbers, it would be nice to see what kraken result you'll achieve.
What are the 6272's doing for numbers? or are you using those to fold?

The 6272s are worthless for folding. I'm so glad I went with quad 6174s.

Heh, I'm glad NCIX couldn't get any from their suppliers so they cancelled my order a few days ago. I'll stick with my MC's and use the money on something better later.

sorry.. typo.. that's what I get for copying and pasting the hardware list.. it's a 4p board.. so corrected the post to reflect that

I went with 2gb dimms (exact same specs, etc) but it won't post.. I swap it out for the 4gb dimms and it works.. 16 x 4gb sticks = 64gb of ram.. i figure once I stop folding with these I can still salvage the ram for another project!?

I haven't tried the 6272s yet.. they are still here.. the second barebone came in so I might try to see what they do as a comparision.. waiting for the noctua heatsinks as well.. that should bring my noise levels down.. it's like a harrier jet right now

I think that they would be faster, but then the wattage use would be higher.. I will probably put them up for sale at a sweet price if you want to buy my set.. maybe do a combo deal with the ram if they are compatible with your board

Tear runs quad 6282s, and tpf on a 6904 is not spectacular.

Yeah, the new bulldozer opterons are kinda crappy. You can fold with them and all, according to [H]ardforum, they yield 25% better PPD, but at 60% more power usage.
It's up to you with your power usage if you want to use them or not. If I had them, i'd be folding at work.. not home! lol.

how many frames are observed when you're doing your measurements? Because HFM needs a lot to calculate bonus' properly.. from 25% to 75% usually shows a drastic swing on it's own on a new system.
