Any linux distro can fold, you just need the right libraries installed, which isn't too difficult.

Linux has far superior memory management and far better filesystems than Windows which is why it doesn't surprise me it does these things better.

At this point, thanks in large part to linuxrouter, it really is easy to optimize your production.

edit - For up to 8 threads, see here. For more than 8 threads, see here.

OK, ready to config my SR-2 to linux folding. What gives up the best ppd? The link you supplied is using a virtual machine inside windows is it not? is this better than using Linux all the way?

Linux all the way.

Use the Musky Mix [H]ard|Forum - View Single Post - Linux versus Windows - bigadv folding results for best results.

Otherwise known as Linux Folding for Dummies even I could do it.

At 3.6 you should be good for ~188k+ ppd (~490k points every 2.62 days) on a 6904...

Yeah - the VMs are only for people who still want to be able to use Windows on their machines. They're sort of a nice compromise in terms of performance. If it's optimal performance you're after - than a bare metal install is most definitely the way to go.

11.04 is fine (NN), that's what I use. But from the other 'nix thread, don't update to 11.10.
