New bigadv project, called "bigbeta" - now Live with bigadv under Linux

Looking for some i7 970 numbers for us mere mortals with only one measly 6-core/12-thread chip at 4.0GHZ. I feel so inadequate. If the numbers are interesting enough I might have to try native Ubuntu folding for the first time.

Wait, so is the 12 cores a suggestion or an absolute requirement? Unless the i7 920 is a typo, but I doubt it is since it's in your system specs.

If a highly clocked HT quad can handle these WU's that would be interesting...

I might have to sell my new GPU farm to go for a dedicated SB Z68 folding rig...

The points may be a little high also about 80% higher than the 6901 but it is still early it may drop, around 42 min frame times with a 970 @ 4.2Ghz 133000 PPD.

I'm getting Ubuntu running now. I had it up but I used Wubi and it will only install ext4 it seems, and ext3 is recommended so i am using an old fashioned iso to install on a partition. I have to backup all data on the HDD before I mess with the partitions so hopefully I can verify my PPD on a 970 4.0GHZ before the day is out as I have other things to do soon.

It'll be a shame if this is Linux only (non-vm ware) as i'll be putting my 940 up to near 4.0GHz again under some water
