It's been a while since this came to light. I'd personally like to see a comparison again based on the current version. Right now I am folding with a radeon 6950 1GB 840/1300 and getting 8333.46 PPD on project 11294. If this is any indication, then it means performance has made some pretty decent gains with the latest versions.

so best cards for the Core16 are the 5xxx family? asking because I am thinking of Crossfiring 2 of them, depending what budget will allow, but I was thinking of 2 5830s

I know that my 5830 was getting at least as many points as my 7950, so ya, it seems like the 5xxx family was the best for folding so far...

I don't think crossfiring your 5830s will gain you any benefit as far as folding is concerned. (Can V7 even fold with crossfire?). Since there is no bonus attached to WUs, it doesn't really make sense to get them done quicker. Better, I think, to fold two separate WUs on two separate cards. That way at least you'll get 100% utilization from each card, which I don't think you'd get from crossfired cards.

yes I know that crossfire or SLI don't do anything in fact for folding, that was for gaming purposes

Pretty sure that the V7 client recognizes SLI/Crossfire setups as the correct number of cards and folds on them accordingly.
