2600K folding rig and PPD numbers

He got 4.6GHZ on stock cooler, and used Corsair H50 for 4.9GHZ.

very nice. so the regular smp client should do well too on the cheaper 2500k thats probably going to be more popular outside the hard core folding community :)

I will confirm those number by the end the week, I sold 2 rig, my I7 980x and an I7 920 for 2 2600K rig. PPD should be equal at least. I did this for power usage-wise, money wise and.... OK OK I was bored and need to do some overclocking fun session!!!

And by looking those numbers... 4.6ghz is easy job, so 45 000 ppd X 2 = 90 000ppd vs now I'm 85 000 ppd for those 2 rig.

Can't wait for the LGA 2011's to come out.. six (possibly 8) core goodness with hyperthreading. If they oc like the 1155's can.. gonna be a lot of swearing by the SR-2 owners.

PPD/Watt FTW,

That's where this thing shines. 50,000 PPD on BigAdv and 200 watts power usage. Compare that to my I7 980x at a conservative 4.075 Ghz (163*25) but using 275w with an idle 5870 is a pretty big deal to me. 25% less power usage for only a slight drop in performance OC vs OC is great.

Though I'm still waiting for BullDozer, I'm still impressed by that aspect, and the fact that it's doing this with dual-channel DDR3 is pretty awesome too. Keeps costs down there as well.

Whats really impressive is that one could get some decently-priced mobos, stick a decent air cooler, and put together a farm without the heat and power of GPU folding.

This of course, assumes that Stanford leaves Bigadv folding as it is.

I dont see them changing anything with CPU folding any time 'soon'. Why? Because people are dedicating a lot of hardware (and thus $), horsepower, and a lot of time. We just may see some bigger units to take advantage of the extra horsepower. A downward change in -bigadv points would only occur if Stanford isnt getting what they want (results) out of their current points system, as it looks now, they appear to be.

In the short-term, you may see Bigadv shortages more often.

Long-term, the bonus point system may be applied to other WUs, making Bigadv less lucrative 'points-wise'.

The above is what I think will happen, but the bonus point system is a trial program.
