From ebay, but the last guy selling them for a decent price seems to have run out. There is this guy however -> Intel Xeon 5600 Series Processor x5650 OEM in New - eBay (item 170585690374 end time Jan-11-11 21:57:54 PST) . He currently sells them for $850.00 but has an OFFER option. If he accepts ~$650.00 for each, then it's probably something to consider as the x20 multiplier (without turbo) of the X5650 puts you in 4.0 Ghz territory. Good luck hunting, sorry wallet!

@Rison

Hope you have better luck with the replacement.

If you know me, then this will come as a complete shocker. I haven't installed FAH yet on it. The things are just so bloody fast, I'm having too much fun doing other things like 3DM06 runs and whatnot. 4.7GHz on air for dual quads? I can't help myself!

But I'll definitely check out the PPD numbers a bit by the end of this weekend for you. Stay tuned.

I don't see evga making a quad socket cpu motherboard.. they barely made a dual socket.

And Charloz, I got the 5645s on ebay for $550 shipped each. Some seller in California.. when I went to get two CPUs, the 5639's were all sold out (they were $450) so that was the next best option at the time.
I couldn't see myself going for 5650's, even though they melt faces - the cost would be getting too high.

I knew (sort of) what I was getting into with the SR-2, but it's a giant pain in the ass, and if given the chance, I wouldn't order it again. I'm sure the PPD is going to be a beast, but the time, money and headaches are not worth it imo.

Why Quad socket? The Becktons are 32 threads CPUs, dual sockets would give 64 threads.

The only answer would come form : Do they feel they made enough profits for the effort of creating/supporting the Sr-2 and/or the marketing hype in regards to the Sr-2 made enough of a splash ? If so, I dont see why they would not re-do the experience.

I for one, would be interested... but before that we are talking at least 18 months. In the meantine, we have a 24 thread overclocked rig that wont be beated in pure multithreaded processing power by LGA2011 before a while.

The wildcard is, what AMD will bring to the table ?

Since when is Beckton going to be a 16 core CPU? The 7560 is 8 core/16 thread.. is there a newer 7000 series coming out thats 16core/32 thread? and who has $4k++ per CPU to spend?

Sorry, my mistake - I misread. 8/16 is correct.
