My System Specs

Default GTX 460 vs GTX 470

Hey guys, looking for some advice here. I can buy cards from the US (student there) and am thinking of upgrading/sidegrading my 4870 to either a gtx 470/460. I can hopefully get an MSI GTX 470 for ~$180 shipped or a ASUS DirectCU Gtx 460 768mb for ~$115. What is my best bang for the buck for folding? Also have a gts 250 for physx in my computer. Can't really go SLI won't do much as I have a Xfire board right now. Thank!

The asus have a crappy cooler ( IMO ) and the 470 is a big player so I would go for the 470. At thisprice it's pretty nice, will fold good and be able to play any game at really sweet setting. Keep your 250 for physiX if your PSU can handle the load. Maybe change it to something higher since it's a XFX 650 ( good PSU but better prevent ).

Have fun!

Yeah, newegg.com black friday deal. I spent way to much money this morning, 360 slim for $140, 32" LG from frys for $211 shipped, some games, this card, another 4gb ram for $30. My wallet hates me, but I'm can't wait to get folding. Think I'll keep the XFX 650w for now, upgrade to something 80+ Gold in the future. If I had the extra $100 I would have picked up the seasonic 750w Gold @ newegg. Love being Canadian but going to school in the states for deals like these.

you lucky bastuge. either or will give you decent ppd, with the 470 heating up your room a bit more, of course. so another vote for 460 here.

One thing about the 470 though, I haven't seen much good feedback for it on the 68xx units. For me personally the 6811's can't be run with my card OCed, stability is just horrible. So I only get 12-13k PPD with them, and they take 12 hours to complete. Still better than what a 460 can do though, especially with these sales bringing them to the $200 price point.

I got a 460 cyclone, and it just might be the best card I've ever purchased, since my 6600GT.

Yeah, I originally was going to get the 460 but at that price? And I pay for electric heat in my apartment so im fine with leaving that off and the comp on.
