Xeven, I hear ya mate no worries I don't think it was ment in the wrong way. I understand there too, I got the GTS250's back in the day for an efficent PPD Machine. However I bet these are like the 511's that we got way way back in the day that knocked out OC's and made heat a real issue. Happens whenever they need to run a really complicated WU.

ST
Sorry for getting a bit heated ST. I'm getting older and I've mellowed down quite a lot, but old habits die hard. I'll see how these new WU's affect my rigs for a few days more and decide whether I should go el-wacko again

@chriskwarren

I'm gaining ~3K at the moment but I'm only doing -smp 6, I'll try -smp 7 in a bit.

No worries. Not sure how long you have been at this, but it is OK to get a little pi$$ed when you have made such a huge investment in gear, only to see how the landscape can change very quickly.

I have been trash-talking LCB001 for a couple of years now. I thought bigadv would get me past him, but then Linux bigadv folding went out the window and I dropped about 25K one month before I caught him

Fixed that for ya, and I'm still waiting...

Ok I was incorrect. GPU usage is 1-2% lower than w/ the 912/925 point units. I will definitely be keeping advmethods enabled to hopefully get less of the 912/925s.

I dropped the OC down to 850/1700/1800 (Full 1.162 core V) on one of the new PNY GTS 450 cards, and set the -advmethods to see if #1/ it'll run stable at that OC, and #2/ just how truely horrid the PPD ends up being.......

Currently on a 925 pointer (P10973 (R0, C51, G31) ) it's getting a TPF of 56 seconds and reporting 14,271.4 PPD in HFM temps are 59c @ 70% fan (Max apparently....).

Ok, here's what I came up with so far on one of the 6800 units.......

At 850 Core speeds TPF toggles between 2:17/2:16 and temps are 7C higher than the 912/925 units. PPD seems to be a bit lower than what I was getting with the 611 units, but I can't compare the two because Stable OC on 611 units does not appear to be stable on the new WUs. A rough guesstimate based on the difference between stock and 850 (also assuming that output will scale linearly) would put these at aprox. 9.3K PPD vice 9.9K+ of the equivelent OC'd 611 units.

Running stock speeds (783 Core), TPF toggles between 2:26/2:27 and puts out 500 PPD less than the (slight) OC of 850. Temps are in line with the 912/925 units, but keep in mind that this is with straight stock Core voltage. At the higher Core voltage, temps were around 62C, so higher than 912/925, but 5C cooler than the OC'd run.

Have you guys tried running the core and memory speeds at its lowest speeds possible, but having the shaders run as fast as possible in order to keep the temps and fan speed down? A long time ago, core and memory speeds didn't matter when it came to Folding@Home. I believe the same would still apply with these GPU3 projects. However I don't have GPU3 running so I got no evidence to back this up.

My stats reflect yours SSW, and scale well with the 460. I had to bump my OC down 10mhz to get one card to fold stable (the other one was fine).

Temps are 5-8c higher. 1:36 TPF's. 11.5k ppd on the at 870mhz.

These arnt that bad of units tbh. They are just finally stressing Fermi 100% and we havnt been seeing it to date. Higher end hardware is now getting respectively higher PPD, as it should. Makes sense, no?

You cant do this any more with the core seperate of the shaders. Fermis are locked to double the core speed.

RAM speed can be lowered, yes, but considering the RAM on my 460 doesnt even touch the GPU heatsink and actually doesnt even have ANY heatsinks on them, I would expect the temp difference of underclocking it to be VERY minimal.

Do you happen to remember what the aprox. PPD on 611 WUs were at this OC? Did you also see a decrease between the 611 and 6800?

And yeah... no surprise that they've finally come up with some WUs which take advantage of higher end Fermi cards. I haven't checked in a while so I'm curious what their baseline hardware is for setting PPD.
