Post your folding casualities

The only thing I've had die on me was, believe it or not, a PC P&C Silencer 750w PSU that died 6 months after I got it.

Which reminds me, I still have to RMA the thing, it's only been a year and a half since it died...

Oh trust me Sagath, I have a very good reason to be folding trust me. And I will again, I've been cursed with some nasty bad hardware situations as of late (1 rig, 1 GPU left).

I will get it all back together soon, it just takes time and money.

450W OCZ PSU went pop after I installed my recently bought gtx260. no big loss, it didn't really have alot of juice I guess for a 260 anyways.

This is exactly me, my rule of thumb.. the more cooling.. the more safer.. just as long as there's no condensation.. and also having enough power to boot up all the aftermarket doodads.

Yep cooling is always a priority for me , and I don't generally OC either so , I've had no major hardware failures from folding (/me knocks wood)

Direct casualty of F@H (er... my obsession to squeeze more points out of an ATI card):
- Diamond Radeon 4850: I ran a stress test on it with lowered fan speeds (because stock 4850 fan is loud). It's bad to leave GPUs at 105 degrees Celsius overnight apparently. The card started coming up with nonzero force sum, then began to error immediately with NANs detected on GPU.

Possible casualty:
- ASUS Radeon 4870 DK Top: PCI-E link failed and was running at 1x instead of 16x - the card's primary purpose was folding but I can't tell if folding or improper packing when I brought my rig to LAN killed it. In its last couple months it was being starved by me putting a TV tuner card in the slot right underneath it, blocking the fan.

Only two parts have died while folding on me so far.

My first folding machine's motherboard has a vrm cap blow up (Asus K8V Socket 754), luckily nothing else was damaged.

And tonight I had the 11 year old 20Gb IDE drive that runs my folding farm machine go to the big parts bin in the sky for good. After a brief revival the drive now sounds like a maraca if shaken and just screams if powered on, I think one of the read heads fell off or is broken and dragging across a platter.

I won't miss it, it was the noisiest part of the folding box and got hot even when idle. SATA here I come!

My 5770 Just died of folding. It running ~55-60 and now no PC's will boot with this card in. The PC don't even make it to POST screen. When I power the PC, it shutdowns in 0.0001 second.. quite instantly.

2 months ago, I did want to start heavy folding with my I5 750, so went for the 4GHz OC. After a few p95 hours it did look stable. When I came back from work, My Gigabyte P55m-Ud2 was dead. I'm pretty sure this MB is not designed for such overclocking. -.- No heatsinks and all.. -.-
