New Laptop

Hey all, I joined up a while ago and folded for a good while, but ended up stopping because for whatever reason my old laptop wasn't getting new work units (when it did, it got about 1k ppd).
So anyway just got me a new sager laptop with the GTX 480m, a I7 Q840 processor, and 8 gigs ddr3 ram running at 1333mhz.
Its time to see what I can get outta this thing, I currently have the gpu and cpu clients running at the same time. I'm also trying bigadv to see how that goes as well.
Currently with both clients running the 480m is getting about 7k ppd. Under load the thing is maxing out at 66 degree celcius (I havnt really maxed it out yet since i got it yet, but I do love my games :P).
Still am waiting atm for some numbers from the cpu client.

edit - the big adv currently has a ppd of 1k, so I'm thinking they may not be a good idea with the gpu client or on a laptop, I just don't know atm

May I ask what was the point of getting such a powerful laptop? Defeats the purpose of a laptop.

1K PPD for a BigADV WU is definitely not good. Is your i7 overclocked?

The reason for the laptop is preference, and the mobility. I like to bring it around with me every so often.
And for the bigadv, I stopped it and am running a normal smp instance, it is getting about 5k ppd so far.
I dunno what was going on but i think ill just pass on bigadv for now.
The gpu client is still running at just over 7k ppd.

well i can say 7k out of a laptop is pretty good. as long as you have warranty? fold its socket off!

indeed, bigadv a 'little' on the low end. maybe try a couple regular clients see what gives? might indeed be trottling down a lot or such

The minimum for -bigadv is an i7 running at around 3.4GHz, so your CPU is definitely not fast enough. Standard SMP should be fine, however. Do you have Hyperthreading enabled?

Standard smp is running about 5.3k ppd now, hyperthreading is enabled (was by default actually).
Overall I'm getting about 12.5k ppd atm.
