My System Specs

Default -Bigadv memory use in windows client

Hey guys, I was wondering, Bigadv seems to be using a lot less memory now ( with the new available on the windows client ) does any of you now if it's the new way to go or if they are going to grow soon?? If they don't plan to grow on memory I would have plan for my extra 4GB so I would be glad if someone could help here! Thx guys!

Both in Linux and Windows, memory use on A3 BigAdv is FAR lower than A2.

The most I've seen used on a Core I7 with 2684 is 1.1GB of RAM, and my one box that is running a 2685 is only using 1.03GB RAM, so it's safe to say it won't grow for a while, when we are folding A3 BigAdv units. The only time it goes up is if you use more cores. Since I am assembling my 24 core folding juggernaut and should have it up and running tonight, I'll post some more numbers for -smp 24 on BigAdv, but from what I've seen no one (even with 24 cores) has exceeded 2GB of RAM usage yet.

This is good news for running 3GB Core I7 9x0 boxes and 4GB Core I7 8xx boxes.

It is unlikely that you will ever need more than 4GB of RAM for normal A3 -bigadv units. A3 units in general just use a lot less RAM than A2 and A1 units.

Just a quick update. With a BigAdv Project 2685 running on 24 cores I'm only seeing a bit over 1.5GB of RAM being used. That's only about 63MB per thread/core
