That being said, this could be a guy who has access to a network somewhere and has permission (or not) to run the client.

I also emailed EBI's Contact Us and asked if they were ebi-gavin. IF it is him using their stuff I hope they know about it, If not they do now. I just think it is weird that EBI would name their team Meta_Cowboys instead of Team EBI (The European Bioinformatics Institute). But I think Folding would be something they might find use full. EBI is a non-profit academic organisation that forms part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).

The EBI is a centre for research and services in bioinformatics. The Institute manages databases of biological data including nucleic acid, protein sequences and macromolecular structures..

It was originally named EBI Systems. This is why I said he may not be legit, in the sense that he's borging stuff without permission, which is against the spirit/rules of folding.

No biggie. Let's see how long it lasts.

Congrats on your 666th post, Beelzebub.

His Reply,
Yes, that's me. I look after the LSF compute clusters at the EBI and
we have recently setup 2 new clusters in our new datacentres. As part
of the testing of the cluster, I've been playing with folding at home
as it makes good use of the CPU and is easy to setup to scale across
hundreds of nodes.

The new clusters are being put in to production use shortly, so the
folding at home will stop.

The name change (as commented on your forum) came about as we are not
an 'official team' and didn't want to advertise to the world that
the EBI is a serious Folding at Home participant - we are just playing
with FAH to test out some new machines. However, we had quite a lot
of CPU power so quickly ranked up the stats!

At the moment, we're running with 404 machines with 8 CPU cores each,
so just over 3200 cores at 2.4GHz each.

Cheers,
Gavin.
