Default -Bigadv To Start Using The A3 Core, Still No Windows Version

This was just posted at FAH-Addict.net, looks like we are still waiting for the windows version but at least it's progress...

Quote:
As announced a few months ago, the BigAdv projects will soon be dropping the A2 core in favour of A3, which will signal the completion of the transition from SMP1 to SMP2; the A3 core being one of the first major applications for the latter.

Project 2684 makes its appearance at this point, and is the first BidAdv project to utilise the A3 core. Scientifically, the project is very close in makeup to those in the 2681-2683 range, which we know as BidAdv A2. It will be used to supplement the data obtained during the first phase of BigAdv and will validate the use of the A3 core on BidAdv projects.

This project is distributed by the usual BigAdv server at 171.67.108.22. Each unit consists of 1,096,433 atoms, and should preferably be completed four days or less if you want an early return bonus. The final deadline is six days. Each unit is worth 8,955 points, and the bonus factor is 26.4. These values may be adjusted at a later date after feedback from users.

Initially, project 2684 will only be available for Linux and OSX, but the Windows version should make its appearance shortly afterwards.

I just received a 2684 work unit yesterday on one of my VMWare Linux VMs.

My i7 860 @ 3.8Ghz (19x200BCLK) is getting a TPF of around 45:30 with one GPU client running and the -smp 8 flag set, and it's estimated by HFM.NET at around 19,000 PPD.

Once this unit is done I will be switching to Windows SMP2 on this box, as the PPD on A3 SMP units is only about 1,500 PPD less, and I can do that with only 4GB of RAM, which is a bonus.

I will be adding the -smp 8 and -bigadv flags in hopes that as soon as a new A3 BigAdv for Windows unit comes I'll get it.

So far A3 work units on this box run about 20% faster on WinSMP vs. Linux based 8 core VMs. Due to bonuses the difference in TPF actually calculates out to about 8,000 PPD difference.

I strongly hope these WUs will run on 4GB of RAM in WinSMP. That would be great.

Looking forward to the Windows bigadv as well. Free up some ram, and should be easier for newbies to get it all setup without fussing over vmware.

What is the deadline on these?

W/ the A2 core I was getting a TPF generally 31min 30s, which a PPD of 28,000. I will not be impressed if i take a few thousand PPD hit.

I think Stanford is a little more in touch with the points system. LCB's post did mention that Stanford would work on the points values after feedback from users.
