I want to warn [H] members now that the bonus % is lower then A2 work units.

Dual X5550 @ 2.93Ghz (smp 16) gets about 31,000 PPD in Native Windows
Dual E5530 @ 2.40GHz (smp 16) gets about 22,000 PPD in Native Windows

The Beta Testers are giving feedback to Stanford and points *may* change with future Work Units.

Nothing is set in stone at this point so lets try and keep the "THIS PPD SUCKS" to a minimum while this is all worked out.

The first project is 2684
  • p2684_SINGLE VESICLE in water
  • Atoms: 1096433
  • Credit: 8955.00
  • K Factor: 26.40
  • Perfered Deadline - 4.0 Days
  • Final Deadline - 6.0 Days

You will need at least 8 cores to get these units.
Core i7 Users will need at least a 3.4 - 3.8Ghz Overclock
(Have not Tested this fully so post your numbers when you have them)

Dual CPU users will need at least 2.2Ghz or faster with 8 physical cores.
(Dual E5504 CPU @ 2Ghz complete units in 4.1 days so this is not fast enough)

Those Users will Core 2 Technology Dual Processors will need + 2.4Ghz -2.6Ghz to complete the units before the Perfered deadline.)
(Have not Tested this fully so post your numbers when you have them)

Why the hell does a Core i7 with 8 threads need 3.4Ghz while a dual CPU setup like the E5504 need only 2Ghz.

Why the hell can't AMD Thuban processors run -bigadv folding? Wtf!

Because 8 physical cores are much better than four cores with HT.

Because they only have 6 cores and they are most likely not fast enough.

I saw earlier this week that there is a new A3 core for Macs but nothing in the Folding Forums at all about this. Is this info from a beta tester?

You don't need 3.4GHz. A stock core i7 920 will still beat the deadline. Well at least in the linux client.

So I guess this means a VM is no longer required to run -bigadv... How much ram would be required now without the VM overhead?

The requirements for A3 -bigadv are different.

About 2GB just for the client.

They claimed you needed 3.2GHz on an i7 to receive bonuses as well w/ the linux client.

Perfect... I guess the wait was worth it... Having to buy so much ram to run -bigadv units just didn't sit well with me cost wise... I7 cpu's and mobo's being expensive enough as it is.
