Default Assignment Server Problems Should Be Fixed

Stanford issued this announcement concerning the recent problem with clients being assigned the wrong WU...

Issued By Kasson

Quote:
We have had a set of assignment server problems this afternoon and evening related to an AS code update; first there was a logic error that caused clients not to get any work. The fix for this problem then caused inappropriate assignments (e.g. SMP clients being given non-SMP work units, also machines being given core types they can't handle). I just reverted the assignment server to the older version of the code; we'll debug sometime during daytime hours (when we can have several pairs of eyes on the code). In the meantime, the AS should start behaving normally in a few minutes.

Huzzah!
I just got a new 920 D0 up and running last night for bigadv.. and it was the first to hit the WU wall.. thought it was something with the new build, lol.
Nothing like troubleshooting a problem I can't do anything about..

fold on!

Wow bad timing.

Will be interesting to see team output for the CC after the fix.

Unfortunately, MANY SMP users got WUs that had PPD issues and are probably still crunching on them. The unit I set up at my parents' place was reporting a WU with 0 PPD and a completion time of 1.1 DAYS. My friend got the same thing on his i7 940. Heaven knows how many people are stuck with those buggered WUs. :(

Yep pretty frustrating, especially for first-time folders, many of which would have signed up for the Contest/Chimp C. It would also possibly affect PPD, as if a team were unlucky enough to finish a few bigadvs at the beginning of the outage, their PPD will suffer compared to others (not saying this happened to us, but...)

I know that it happened to one of my systems and quite a few of my friends who are folding for this contest also got bitten. All told, I am guessing we are down about 40K PPD from just people I know who currently have single core WUs taking forever to complete.

So as far as I can tell, we will be down a massive number of points for the next 16-20 hours.

First time folder.

I think I got a bad one running on my old P4 now. This one seems small, only 25000 steps; it's only 4% completed after 9h 39mn but ETA is 7d 13h 47mn. 7 days? These are low points, hardly worth the electricity.

Previously the P4 processed some larger 2,500,000 step WUs within a day.

But it's going faster on the Playstation 3 and my i7-860 is doing good - about 3 WU per day since the 5th.

3 WU per day on an 870 is quite good.

Of all the times for this to happen. I was allowed to use 48 threads from a server last night, and all it got stuck with as useless cores :(
