My System Specs

Default Is something wrong

I setup a SMP client last nite, it seems that when pc is idol for any more than a couple minutes my cpu slows from 50% to 20-25%. I'm watching this in task manager/performance. Also while F@H viewer is enabled the protein circling will slow to a crawl. If I move my mouse everything jumps back up to speed.
Any ideas??

1) Don't use the viewer. To monitor your clients, set up HFM.NET according to this guide: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...tml#post143366

2) Did you set up the SMP client according to this guide? http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-pictures.html

I was recruiting a friend of mine over skype yesterday to fold a3's with us for this month, and he's experiencing a similar problem where cpu % hovers at 15. I'll ask him again today. He's got an i7 at 3.8ghz with 4gb of ram, a3's are the best that he can do correct?

damn I should really stop thread-jacking...

The status bar, top left corner is greyed out- Status Unknown
Log doesn't want update with last entry saying...F@H Core Shutdown: Interupted
edit: According to the F@H logfile I've uploaded 3 packets and am 23% into the fourth in the last 17 hours

Are you sure that you have HFM.NET pointed to the correct directory for your SMP client? If you followed my guide, the install path should be C:\Program Files\Folding@home Windows SMP Client V1.01\ (or Program Files (x86) if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows).

4GB of ram rules out Bigadv. You need to tell him to use the SMP2 client that Zero has created in our stickies. He will be good for ~15K PPD on that sucker. He would need the passkey.

I would like to see a screenshot of the folder you have HFM pointed to. I think Zero is correct in that the folder is not pointed correctly, or there is something going on we need to get to the bottom of before you continue folding.
