Dancing_Banana The HWC Chimp Challenge 2010 Thread: Go Bananas!

Stats Pages

Check out the stats pages to see how the competition is going!

Hosted by HWC: Chimp Challenge 2010 Stats - Powered by Hardware Canucks

Hosted by EOC: Chimp Challenge Team List - EXTREME Overclocking Folding @ Home Stats

Every year, a competition is held among several Folding@Home teams. The rules change sightly each year, but here are the rules as supplied by a very helpful Maximum PC member gsmitherman:

Quote:
Chimp Challenge 2010 Rules:

1. First team to accumulate 20,000,000 points from the start time wins.
Every other team will then battle it out for their final positions all the way to the finish line.

2. Start time for the contest is Wednesday, May 5th at 12pm, Pacific Daylight Time (UTC -7).

3. The victor gets to claim the lucky jaded monkey as the prize.
Tales have been told of untold wealth and fame that comes with this.
The victorious team is allowed to display in any honorary fashion the jaded monkey, the losing teams are forbidden to display it.
The losing teams are bestowed the dreaded monkey's paw, which is said to be cursed.
People have been known for have very bad luck with this paw!

4. Team captains are as follows:

OCF - Captain: harlam357
MaxPC - Captain: gsmitheman
OCAU - Captain: leroyxx
OCN - Captain: mortimersnerd
EVGA - Captain: l337h4l
CPC & bit-tech - Captain: coolamasta
Hardware Canuks - Captain: chriskwarren
TSC! Russia - Captain: Hil
Tech Power Up - Captain: BUCK NASTY

5. In the event of a close race, a Stanford daily_user_summary.txt file will be the official source for points information.

6. Only team captains are allowed to make changes to rules.

7. The official folding names are:

OCF - T32monkeys
MaxPC - maximum_monkey
OCAU - Monkey_Bollocks
OCN - OCNChimpin
EVGA - EVGApes
CPC & bit-tech - CustomBitChimps
Hardware Canuks - Beavers_Gone_Bananas
TSC! Russia - TSCh!mp
Tech Power Up - ChimPowerUp

8. Have fun and keep it positive.

Also, please keep this in mind:

  • We all need to fold until the20 million points are done, even if the first place team has finished long before we do. A big team may finish in 5-6 days, and we may have to go a while longer. This is how the Chimp Challenge has always operated.
  • Please don't prime WUs (This is pausing a client until directly before it is to be submitted, so that we get a 'burst' of points). Pausing clients slows down the F@H project, and thus the science done. This is against the spirit of the Chimp Challenge so we should honour this as proud Canucks.

How to join?
You will need to fold under the username Beavers_Gone_Bananas (note the underscores in the username), and the team number 54196 , and you will need the passkey.

Please post your forum name so that we know who is contributing. You can choose to include the PPD you will contribute, but it is not necessary. I would wait to contribute until a few days before the competition.

How do I get the passkey?

You only need the passkey for SMP2 or Bigadv. No need for the GPU, as there is no bonus points awarded with that client. If you fold on the video card only, just use Beavers_Gone_Bamanas for the username, and leave the passkey blank.

If you want to fold using your cpu, then you are most likely using the SMP2 or Bigadv clients, and will need the passkey.

You can PM the following users:
chriskwarren
LCB001
FiXT
SugarJ

I have never folded before? I need help!

Please post your questions in the Folding@Home section of the site. If you have a question, chances are somebody else has the same question, so a thread is the best place to ask. If you ask questions via PM, it could take days to get a response if the person is flooded with questions.

Lets not just make this a folding thing; this is a chance for the HWC community and others in Canada to get noticed!

Other details will be posted as they become available.

Feel free to start signing up in this thread and have fun everyone!

I'll be in once it starts. Whatever I'm putting out PPD normally will be switched over to the new team.

I'm in if I can get something solid setup for FOlding. I'm still down on the setups for now.

My machine will be turned over to the cause. I'll even stop BOINCing with the wife's machine, and swap it over for the duration.
