Hopefully "a few weeks" doesn't turn into "a few months" or longer...

Roger that, just pulled the trigger on a 470. Hope they have it sorted out in time for "the challenge"

I dont think youll have time to let it display that sh...ahh..unless you mean the naked protein folding..hehe,,funny guy
Yeah 5850 and 5870 use very little power comparatively. On NVidia cards F@H uses nearly as much power as 3DMark, but not Furmark. But on ATI cards it's less, because even though they can run up to 99% GPU utilization with Folding@home, it's not completely accurate, as the card doesn't heat up as much as 3DMark, or Furmark.

Hot naked proteins > make my "banana boogie".

Apparently it's REALLY important to NVidia that GTX 4x0 works folding@home, or any other "GPGPU" type application, so hopefully they are going to get this sorted out sooner rather than not-so-sooner.

I would love to see it ready before Chimp Challenge. Another few points to add would be nice.

I agree about the F@H priority; once they get SLI performance where they want it, Cuda may get some extra lovin.

Looks like it will be a few weeks before GTX 480/470 cards are supported:
Quote:
Vijay Pande has posted some more information about the pending support for nVidia's Fermi/GTX4xx cards in Folding@home. It has not been a trivial fix to make the cores work on these new cards, and a new client will be required to support the cards, as well as some behind-the-scenes changes to the Pande Group's software.

The upside of this extra effort should mean that the new core will utilise these more powerful cards far more effectively than the current cores would have if they worked on Fermi. However as a result support for the GTX4xx series is still a few weeks away, whilst the new code undergoes thorough internal testing, so your cards will need to remain idle for a little longer. Or maybe give you an excuse to dig out those dust-covered PC games

I would've pulled the trigger right away on a 470 if it could fold, but since I'm in a hurry I'm picking up a PII x6 along with a board and some ram, will probably get close to 10k ppd..

Suks don't it. I am gonna put my somewhat flakey GTX 295 in place of the 470 for tonight's switch to CC_B_G_B.

Stupid Folding

hey zero what does that flag do?

damn this is a dilemma for me lol, I've got a 5870 and a i7 so I've gotta keep it on 24/7 for -bigadv but I don't want to have my 5870 folding 24/7 at 5% efficiency or have it idling and guzzlin power while the i7 folds, but if I remove it and replace it with a 4650 I won't be able to game :( I can't keep switching back and forth either, just don't have the will to do that... so it's either folding or gaming for me. I wish stanford would hurry up with the ati support; if they did, they would see more WU's coming in

worst part is I don't have any nvidia cards in my house

This flag tells this particular GPU2 client to use ATI folding binaries. Remove the AMD/ATI*.DLL files in the folding client directory and use this flag to enable your 5870 to fold.

I've been able to fold on my 5870 for a while. Not the fastest (4000 - 5000 PPD) but better than nothing. ATI folding also seems to yield GPU resources to games better than the nVidia GPU2 client.

You can use -forcegpu ati_r700 or -forcegpu ati_r600, but I'd advise to use ati_r700 for a 58x0 card.

If you need any more help, lemme know.
