F@H & Power Consumption. Look no further.

Ever wonder how much power F@H actually. Well here are my results.

The system that I tested on is the following:
i7 920 @ 4.5GHz, 1.3375Vcore, 1.2Vtt
9GB DDR3 @ 643MHz, 8-8-8-24, 1.56Vdimm
X58 E760 Classified
8800GTS 640MB @ 621/1455/900
30GB Vertex
1000W Antec Quattro. Which is around 85% efficiency on the loads I am testing.

I used the Blue Planet Energy Meter to find the wattage that is being pulled from the wall. I am using Calgary power rates for these results. Which at the time of posting is 5.951 cents per kWh. I have disabled Speedstep & C1E.

Now for the results. Watts shown is what is the whole system power consumption taken from the wall. $ amounts are per month.
IDLE-> 265W = $11.35
Running 8 thread -bigadv -> 430w = $18.42
8800GTS ONLY. P5785. 783point -> 321W = $13.76
8800GTS P5785 & bigadv -> 488W = $20.91
If you are the kind of person who leaves your machines on 24/7 to either download or whatever, it is only going to cost an extra $7/month to run a bigadv client. And if you leave the client on idle priority it really
doesn't interfere w/ gaming.

If anyone else has a power meter I would love to see what your system power consumption is for videocards.

nice. those figures are under folding conditions right? try furmark and see if it ramps it up another 20-25 watts? :) how about occt or such for cpu? from what i gathered folding will stress it less than soem of those utilities. now some may say thats not the proper way of testing, but for the price invested in the tester, i say its worth to have that small margin of error.
better even, plug it to your power bar that comes from the ups and goes to feed the system, even.


my old q9550 oc'ed to 3.5 if memory serves right with one 640 gts and 24" lcd and speakers and what not was using 300 watts

Of course, which is why I posted it under the F@H section.

A lot of people say F@H costs too much to run, but a SMP w/ bigadv really isn't all that bad.

I've been telling people $15 extra/month to run your PC 24/7 and fold, which is obviously in line with what your test results and my hydro bills are. Thanks lowfat.

I'll also reinforce that this is @ 4.5GHz, I can imagine that a 3.8GHz - 4GHz will be a tad lower as well.

Yup. If my math is correct I get about 52,000 points per $1 spent on power running just the bigadv client.

you think a minimalistic i7 build would kill price/kwh/ppd wise? im talking about bare minimums here. scavenged case, whatever low power found/scavenged pci/pci-e video card,hdd and cd-rom. and so on
