Default SMP2 (A3) Core Updated To v2.17

Stanford has released an update for the SMP2 core, this new version (v2.17) is required by one of the new SMP servers and will be auto-downloaded when required.

Announcement by Kasson;

Quote:
We have released an updated version of the A3 core used to run SMP2 work units. The current release is now 2.17. Right now one of our SMP2 servers is requiring the new core; your client should auto-download the core next time you get work from that server.

Please do *not* update your cores mid-WU. The checkpoint format is different, and your work unit will start over from the beginning.

Thanks for your support of the project!
There have been posts on the Folding forums to the effect that while this core seems to offer some increased PPD it may cause some lag in your system when playing games. From this thread; Folding Forum • View topic - New 2.17 Core Faster Than 2.15?

That would be one heck of a system that could game and fold at once. Unless you do some 'light' folding (ie. one gpu out of two, -smp6, etc etc)

Depending on the game, I sometimes leave SMP running (and I always leave my second GPU client running).

I game all the time w/ my SMP client (VMWare w/ -bigadv -s,p 8 ) going. Doesn't affect gameplay at all.
