I actually looked into two solar power systems for my house, one for pre-heating hot water and one to store energy for the house.

Both extremely expensive, $6k and $13k installed respectively, and that was a good year and a half ago during a home show. I only pay $1500/year on electricity currently... I have oil heat, so that just doesn't add up when you take into consideration changing batteries every 4 years (half the cost), and the maintenance plans you have to sign up to.

I wouldn't want to know how many tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars a wind turbine would be.

I would expect a whole lot better than a TPF of 12 minutes from a 32 core beast.

The interesting thing is, later on in that thread, another guy got a greater TPF on his rig by reducing the -smp 64 to -smp 52.

The rig I mentioned is not in the hands of the poster anymore, so he could not try smp 52 to see if he got better performance.
