Default folding question, 98gx2 vs gtx260 on amd mobo

ok so iv been wondering, how much better still is a 98gx2 vs a gts260 216?
how much ppd are they apart nowadays?

im gonna be picking up 1 or the other for the same price but just need to decide on which?
also, im running an amd crossfire platform, would that effect setting up the gx2 multiple gpus since there no sli function on the mobo or is it unrelated and more software controlled for a single card.

thanks for any help

A 9800GX2 does about 10-12k PPD whereas an overclocked GTX260 will do about 7500-9000PPD depending on the units. I would personally favour the GTX260 due to lower power consumption and easier maintenance.

Regarding the multi-GPU setup, dual-GPU cards can actually still run in SLI mode in non-SLI motherboards. However, you should actually disable SLI while folding since it tends to work better than folding with it enabled.

I would go with the 260 as well. The GX2 might be much cheaper in a few weeks.

If you went the GX2 route, you could do folding on it no problems on AMD platforms as SLI has nothing to do with it.

The 98gx2 would probably yield better PPD (around 10-12 K depending), however judging from all the posts of people having problems getting the second gpu core to work properly or at all, I'd steer clear of these cards. I was tempted to pick up a few of these cards but decided on the GTX 260's. My GT260's yield around 8 K average PPD. Less PPD but less hassle...

I've never had a problem folding on 9800gx2 on XP 32-bit. It seems to be Windows 7 64-bit that is causing the people some problems.

2 GX2's have run Perfectly for me with XP 32 Bit. Its a Driver/Win 7 Issue as far as I can tell.
Which has nothing to do with the cards.
And with all the new work Units that I was having before I turned the rigs off to move the GX2's were doing better than my highly overclocked ENGTX260 Matrix. I'd get 7200 Average (All WU's not taking the average of just 353's), for the GXT however the GX2 would give a COnsistant 11K ppd.

GX2's do Run hotter, and the fan is louder , however the card can really take the thermals without a hitch and error where other cards in the GTX series not so much.

Best Bang for the buck however resides in the Lowly GTS250's which I run as well and they for low power consumption cards pump out a clean 6100.

thx for your help so far,
they will be going into a win 7 pro 64 system as soon as i pick and receive the card,

it's gonna be the 260 or gx2 as my folding and phyx and then just 5770 as my main.
and i know all about the driver issues when trying to do that.
