Well, I'm going to let it sit for a minimum of 20 minutes to see if it updates to at least 1%, and then I'm going to have to have a look at what's going on because I'm still not seeing any update to 1%. I've shutdown/restarted the client, as well as went through the config a second time just to be sure, but still nothing....

edit: while writing this, it spit out an error on the checkpoint.... going to do a system reboot and then see if that resolves the issue. (maybe it's because I didn't actually sign in with a password yet... I just set one up for my useraccount).

Never having used XP that's new to me, hope you get it fixed...

I'm thinking it might also be related to the initial setup of the MPI as well.... still gonna give it a little bit to come up, but it sure as hell seems like it's hanging rather than running, even though the cores are pegged at 100%.

Hrmmmmm........

Made 4 changes..... stopped using the "% of cpu" at 75%, didn't disable the core affinity lock, stopped locking the affinity at only 0,1,2, and raised the gpu client priorty to normal so that it takes precedence over the smp client.

Seems to be working now so I'll see what kind of tpf it looks like I'm getting, verify that it's not adversely affecting my gpu ppd, and then perhaps go back and see which one of those 4 things was buggering up the smp client.

That didn't work out as planned..... got the SMP stopped for now. No amount of priority/affinity setting seemed to resolve the issues I was having with the GPU clients (they stop to a crawl). No use me running the SMP for aprox. 6K PPD (after bonus points) if I'm going to lose 1.5K + on each of the 4 gpus. I'd be better off taking the 2K ppd I can get out of a 2 core Linux VMware, using one core for boinc, and leaving the 4'th core open for the gpus.

I'll play with it at a later date, but for now SMP folding is relegated back to being a secondary points generator to the GPU clients.

I was having issue with my GPU clients last night where they were taking forever to do anything. I have no explanation for what caused it other than I'd just switched to SMP2. After I cleared the Work folder and deleted 'queue.dat' everything reset to normal. I had to do it on all GPU clients on the SMP2 computer to fix the problem.

I can't say for certain if everything is 100%, but it seemed fine last night and today's stats look about average for me.

I'll have a second look (and try your suggestions), but I'm into different WUs on the gpus than I was last night when I started the new smp so I can't see how that could make a difference.

I can see the difference in the GPU usage graphs for the non-100%-usage WUs.... they normaly spike to 100% and then work between 25% - 40% in between the spikes. With the SMP running, the "in between" % is between 0% - 10%. PPD drops down from 3K+ to a little over 1K.

All of this is with the GPU instances set to "above normal", and the SMP left to idle. It doesn't appear to be a memory issue as the memory usage doesn't go above 60%.

What are you using as your priority manger? Do you have any affinities set for CPU or GPU?

I installed the SMP2 client on a machine last night which was running 2 gpu clients, both the gpu clients stopped working properly... I tried reinstalling the gpu clients from scratch but couldn't get them working properly again till I had completely removed the SMP2 client... thank you system restore... Not sure at this point what the problem is but I will try again tonight on another machine.

I'm using Process Lasso. I've got the SMP set to 80% in the SMP config which loads 3 cores to 100% and leaves the 4'th at 80%. Affinity is set for core 3 on all of the GPU clients (as well as pretty well all other non-MS apps), priority is left to IDLE for the SMP and set to ABOVE NORMAL for the GPU clients.

Now that I'm thinking about it.... the only thing I havn't done is turn off the "LOCK CPU CORES" switch in the GPU clients.... that might actually be the problem if they're trying to use a certain core and Process Lasso is fighting to keep them on core 3.........
