Default 50% PPD drop ?

On my father computer, a Phenom X3 8600, I noticed this morning that his PPD dropped by nearly 50% and I have no clue why that may be, he is using VMware and folding with CPU only. The only change that was made was the NAT that was changed, but I don't think that should affect PPD in anyway.

Also, if that matters, I noticed the VMware had been shut yesterday(not sure when it was shut), so I was not able to complete a WU which was due to be sent yesterday. I only noticed the PPD drop this morning and had to leave shortly after.

Anyone know a possible reason for that ?

Can you check to see if all three cores are ~100%?

What does your father use his computer for typically, if he does any work on it it at all it will use some of the cpu cycles and your ppd will go down, i dont think it would cut it in half but would explain some of it. Maybe he's also turning it off at night?

It was never folding 100% on all core and I never bothered to look why. I liked to think it was folding with 2 cores leaving 1 unused, but it wasn't quite the case.

The PPD drop I am talking about is this morning, after the computer was left unused for more than 6 hours; therefore, whatever my father did should not impact PPD (actually now that I think of it, its a possibility since I resumed from last time it was used, so the PPD was partially based on how it was then, right ?). As for his use, its very light, Office, FF, Thunderbird, iTunes to charge his iPod. He wouldn't shut the VMware knowingly at night, but I am sure he did, he just has no clue of it.

Your PPD can also get down depending on the WU's you are doing. Some are bigger or harder so you get less PPD. You can try downloading a new one or finish this one before to get a new and see what happening.

I am currently not home, but all WU are 1920 WU, never anything different... The PPD usually varies but its less than 200 PPD, which I always thought was more linked to the usage that was done with the computer than anything else.

My guess is it's probably an unstable clock delta. If that's the case, it's just one of those things that happens every once in a while. Simply restarting the VM should fix the problem.

I woke up today and my VMware got a new WU i never seen before (P5102) 3340 Credit and My PPD droped from 2000PPD to 1259 doing it. I was only using 50% of my CPU( Getting 2000ppd) but now its at 100%, So I hope my ppd goes up and the ETA drops, I have to waits for FahMon to update with everything at 100% to see what my ppd will be. My GPU gets a lot of those 548 credit WUs to.

P5102 is a real bitch of a project! Thankfully, it's not so prevalent now, but there was a time when 5101 and 5102 were most of what we got. And yeah - they are some of the most poorly-rewarded WUs in the entire fah project. But hey, waddaya gonna do, right? Just complete it and cross your fingers that you don't get another one
