Important; SMP Client Updates; Including -bigadv

Kasson from the Pande Group has just posted updated v6.29 SMP clients for all OS's except the OS/X installer version.

Note; Even though it enables the client for use with the SMP2 cores they have not been released yet.

The part in Bold was done by me to highlight it;

We have just posted updates for all our SMP-capable clients except for the OS/X-Installer version. These updates do two things:
1. fix a small but important bug
2. enable the clients for the upcoming release of our first SMP2 cores (threads-based SMP)

For Win SMP just stop the WU (or wait for it to finish) and replace the 'Folding@home-Win32-x86.exe' with the drop-in binary available here; http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/fold...-Win32-x86.exe

For the -bigadv using a VM I would think it might need an update from the author of the image...

For anyone wanting to update into the existing image, here are the commands:

wget http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegrou ... -Linux.tgz
mkdir old
cp fah6 mpiexec old
tar xzf FAH6.29-Linux.tgz

I would finish up any existing work units first though before upgrading.

I think I'll just let my vmware rigs continue to fold bigadvs until they don't get them. Then I'll update my image.

Just to make things more interesting fredfoobar just released a beta that is an updated version of notfreds VM that can run -bigadv WU's, of course he going to have to update that now...

For those of you who are used to working with NotFred, I came up with a series of changes that allows NotFred to run -bigadv work units. I'm putting this up as an alternative to the virtual appliances mentioned here. Like a regular NotFred, FredNotFred is very lightweight - it can be run from a USB drive, a CD, or even a TFTP network boot - but unlike regular NotFred, FNF can run -bigadv units. Here are the changes I made from regular NotFred:

• Updated the client install to 6.24beta.
• Added in the drop-in client binary necessary to run -bigadv units.
• Added additional configuration options to the web interface:
  • Additional parameters (to pass to the client)
  • Hostname (the name of the VM on the network)
• Using the remote reboot script now backs up the WU data files before shutting down.

im running the notfred beta for bigadv for 24h now, but running with advmethod for now(need to done 10 with my pass key) will let you know later for bigadv

Use linuxrouter's build for -bigadv folding. Much better and easier to use.
