I have had similar results. Notfred is still faster on all my 4-or-fewer-core SMP machines.

I'm using it still on my Phenom as well. I prefer being able to see the progress as well as the other niceties it brings. The performance hit wasn't enough to convince me to change, but I'm also lazy too.
